Upon arrival we entered a pleasant atmosphere and were shown to our room by a member of staff, who was actually the bar man with an excellent personality.

My wife and I enjoyed our overnight stay at the George, as part of a 3 day road trip through Sussex and Kent. Our room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, with a surprisingly modern and well appointed ensuite bathroom. Dinner and breakfast were both amazingly good and the staff were extraordinarily helpful and friendly. The village itself had a warm, homely and hospitable atmosphere, despite some roadworks over the picturesque bridge.I do not hesitate to recommend a stay at the George to anyone who values good service, good value and the best of British beauty ❤️

Second stay here. Really enjoy the room, and the evening staff are fab, however the morning/breakfast staff paid no attention to us and left me waiting 10 minutes for toast I asked for only to find out that the waitress/bar staff hadn’t even asked the kitchen for it yet so my breakfast was cold by the time it arrived.

Sadly, my wife was taken ill the evening before so I actually travelled on my own so I can't add her opinion, but I'm sure she would share my views. I thought the George was delightful. An all-pervading atmosphere of friendliness and an obvious desire on the part of the staff to be pleasant and helpful made the stay memorable and enjoyable, and the hotel put up with my unruly family (21 for dinner on that Friday evening) magnificently. The food was most pleasant. The Sussex Bitter was stunningly good. Breakfast was an absolute pleasure. I do hope to have the chance to return.

When having a short break our usual go to would be a Premier Inn but this time we thought we would try somewhere different. What an inspired choice that turned out to be !! We arrived in the beautiful village of Robertsbridge and found The George. On entering this delightful pub we were met by a member of staff who greeted us by name and took us to our room. The room was spacious with a modern en suite and everything you would want for your stay. We decided to eat in the pub in the evening and had a superb meal with a large choice from the menu and specials board. We found the waiting/bar staff very friendly, as were the locals, who were keen to give welcome advice on where to go to in the surrounding area. After a very comfortable nights sleep we came down for an equally superb breakfast. We stayed for two perfect nights and can't recommend The George enough for both an overnight stay or a fabulous meal. We would definitely return if we travelled to the area again.

I called Alison at The George Inn, 3 days before we were due to stay there, to explain that my (now) wife and I were having a fairly impromptu wedding in Rolvenden, Kent and would not only be turning up to check in at 11pm but also hadn’t managed to find a taxi to take us there yet!Alison, not only reassured me the late check in was no problem and she would personally wait for us but also without hesitation, said she’d arrange taxis for us on both Saturday AND Sunday morning! Having tried myself for ages to book taxis in the area, I know this was no easy feat! Plus she took all the hassle and need to think about them by paying for them upfront and adding the cost to our bill (something she texted me to make sure was ok first) On top of that, Allison was more than happy to push our check out time to much later than usual and arrange to bring us the most delicious veggie and full English breakfasts to the room…along with some of the best pastries we’ve tasted this side of Paris!! When we arrived at the George (around 11:30pm) after our truly special day - the room was beautiful, and had all the charm of a country pub B&B with all the style, comfort and attention to detail of a 5 star boutique hotel. A well stocked fridge / mini bar with great products, great coffee machine and super comfy bed were the icing on the wedding cake! We even found a bottle of champagne and glasses waiting on the bed for us as a surprise :) Allison, you are a true superstar and we can’t thank you enough for your kindness, attentiveness and genuine willingness to pull out all the stops to make our wedding day/night and next morning so perfect and memorable… If we could, we’d give you 10 out of five stars!!! Forever grateful, Luke & Laura xx

Booked a 2 night stay here as we were visting a vineyard nearby. Friendly staff, excellent food, nice view of the pretty village high street. Quiet after pub customers had left and peaceful in the mornings.Grab a parking space quickly if one is wanted in the small pub car park! Very tricky turning round in the very narrow hilly road to the right of the pub. Had a couple of narrow misses with other cars going up/down the road!Could have done with a net curtain as we were facing the street! Clean, homely room and great facilities. Heard the vaccum cleaner around 7 a.m each morning, as there is a lovely wooden floor on the ground floor, so perhaps a quieter vaccum cleaner or an addition of a rug would be better?Overall enjoyed our stay at the inn, and liked the village and shops.Plenty to do further afield also.Thank you very much and hope very much to return soon. :)

Atmospheric and cosy pub in the centre of a typically Sussex village with superb bakery, florist, gift shop, local shop and train station.Spacious room with very comfortable bedExcellent menu and very impressive choice of local wine and beer (try the English sparking wines, they are very fine)Dinner was delicious and so was breakfast. Local produce featuring with fish and yogurt as star turns (at dinner and breakfast times respectively!)Service was friendly and super efficientFrom here you are in easy reach of Hastings, Battle as well as Great Dixter and a whole host of other East Sussex delights

We stayed on a Monday evening so sadly could not sample an evening meal but was given a warm welcome and our room was both beautiful and comfortable. A good nights sleep was followed by a superb breakfast. Really friendly hosts and we will definitely come again to sample the evening meals. Great for visiting Great Dixter.

We stayed for just one night and enjoyed our stay very much although being a Sunday we had our evening meal at the very good Indian restaurant in the village, as we arrived too late for lunch.John and Jane are fabulous hosts, and Robertsbridge is so charming. We had a superb breakfast and look forward to enjoying the wonderful menu upon our next visit. Thanks so much.

Hosts Janet and John were extremely attentive and excellent hosts including doing their very best to resolve an issue resulting from different definitions of King Bed (size) between the USA and the UK. The inn has a warm local pub atmosphere with very good, locally sourced, food and a pleasant location at the top of the pretty village high street. Strongly recommended!

On arrival we were welcomed to this very relaxed family run accommodation .The food at the George was excellent and seemed to be very popular with the locals on the Saturday night as was busy but still very comfortable with a nice pleasant bar come restaurant atmosphere. The George is set in a lovely position in the middle of a lovely old historical village with plenty of parking. The only criticism we can make is that we reported things with our room from day one in the evening and they made a note and did not get done, so reported again the next morning and later that day had still not been done. Part of problem got resolved on the second day evening. This was only a minor problem but felt that they could have been resolved quicker. One tip for our room would be a small box of tissues as now normally found in any accommodation staying in.The George is a good pub to stay at if visiting or touring the beautiful counties of Sussex or Kent.

reception by beth was excellent, pleased to have harveys beer to drink, found the food excellent but somewhat limited dinner menu. no problem to feed our 5 guests on 2nd evening.the room was tiptop, very roomy and clean,my concern was the small shower room and equally small toilet,i'm 6'4" and 18 stone and found it very tiny. hence the 4 stars.but overall we enjoyed our stay and would willingly return in the future.

This was our 2nd visit to the George and was just what we wanted. Great room, comfortable bed and spacious. John, Jane and staff could not do enough for us and the breakfasts were wonderful, thank you. We visited during the heatwave and we were given a fan, on request. We did struggle with the Wi-Fi which had a weak signal in our room. It would have been useful to have a bottle/flask of cold water in the room during the hot weather.

Not quite as young as we'd like, more middle age couple having a treat on our campervan tour across the South Coast of England. Friendly and informative staff providing a fabulous service, great local beer and a nice selection of gins. Evening meal cooked and presented really well. The room was large and comfortable with separate shower from the toilet and basin. A little bit of road noise early evening but soon stopped and secondary glazing was installed, trouble was it was crazy warm and we needed the windows open to cool the room.Breakfast was once again amazing cooked to order and nothing was too much trouble.Would happily return if I'm ever in the area again.

The Pooke Room was very comfortable and has two large windows looking down the old High Street, which is very quiet as all through traffic goes via the bypass.A neat little shower and separate loo have been shoehorned into the historic room, and there were good towels, changed daily.Breakfast was generous, and served in the bar which is light and pleasant, or in the courtyard at the back.

The staff were welcoming. The managing of my booking was very good, the owner super helpful and friendly. We had never been to this area before, my head buzzing with wedding preparations etc. After myconversations with chef, and then Owner returning my call, I feltconfident that I had made the right choice to book The George Inn. We even booked a meal for 9 of wedding party the evening before wedding and the booking was handled professionally. The food, atmosphere, and restaurant in the Inn made for a lovely friendly evening.

Arriving after lunch our request for a sandwich and coffee lunch was met with instant response, and not just any old sandwich either. Good Service is very much integral to the life of this Inn, which sits imposingly in the centre of the village. Our room was spotless, with radiators & towel rails that worked as instructed and an excellent hot shower room. The restaurant attracts lots of locals and after our very pleasant evening meal we were invited to sit at the log fire to enjoy our night cap drinks. Breakfasts had healthy options of home made muesli and delicious fruit compote. We had a wonderful stay and felt very welcomed from the minute we arrived.

I would have liked to give this hotel 5 stars but it seemed to lack the extra care that has been present in other 5 star hotels I have stayed in.The room was lovely a very comfortable bed. The bathroon very small. NO small individual toiletries,no extra toilet rolls.Everything was spotlessly clean. The evening meal which was paid for extra was delicious, the cooked breakfast was very poor, my husband asked for bacon sausage, and egg he did get 2 eggs but only 1 small link of sausage and a small rasher of bacon. we asked for mixed toast and received 3 small slces between us. WE found the service at each meal very slow. I do think for £130 a night for B/B this is to expensive for what is offered.

Our breakfasts and dinners had that little extra something that made them special. As we are both ‘totterers’ our cases were taken and brought down from our room which made life so much easier. Delightful and friendly atmosphere as soon as we arrived. Spacious room spotlessly clean and well fitted out. Not breakfast and dinner met our expectations and we were pleased to note that local suppliers were used to source food. Also very happy that the wine list included organic wine. Robertsbridge itself is a n attractive village to wander around. Service from the staff was perfect!

We had 2 nights here to explore the area . Two couplesThe George has very clean and comfortable rooms and the breakfast was first class . The fact that there are only 4 rooms gives a homely feeling and we had dinner both nights here and the food was very good . Parking is plentifulThe staff and owners think ahead - they lay the tables as you want them without asking . It is good tk find a smaller establishment that has such high Covid standards without making us feel awkwardThe owners have been here for 15 years and their experience shows

Pros; - good location, near coast and attractions in beautiful countryside- pleasant and helpful staff- good food, especially breakfastCons; - only one chair in room, not good for a couple- no wardrobe, just a collection of wall coat hangersA bit of enginuity could have have accomodated both these points in what was a large room. This lack of facilites let down the experience.

I don’t think it was just the 2:0 win for England over Germany that made it a great night but it added to a lovely handmade meal and a perfectly comfortable bed and sumptuous room with all the quirks of an old building. The George is added to the list of reliable places to stay!

I booked the George for a birthday getaway treat for my lovely wife. We had previously visited Robertsbridge and wondered what it would be like staying there. Well we wasn't disappointed, nothing was to much trouble for our very amicable hosts jane and John. From a phone call to request a birthday treat bottle of champagne in our room, i got the pleasure of speaking to Jane. She made me feel very welcome with her friendly manner and openness. Our room on arrival was just luxurious and the bed a lovely sized king. We had dinner and the choices on the menu were just right in my opinion, not too much choice to overwhelm, just enough to peruse and want every dish. After a very relaxing night's sleepwe went to sample the breakfast. Again we were not disappointed by the choice of locally sourced dairy products, meats and fresh juices. I could wax lyrical about the terric wines or well stocked bar and how friendly waiting staff made our meal experience comfortable by not rushing or being invasive, but I'm not a professional review writer. Why not come and see for yourself. Thanks again Jane and John. X

Thank you Chris and so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. I spoke to John re the Green light you mentioned and I gather that it is the standby light for the emergency lighting so unfortunately it needs to stay on.However what we have done is swap it for a different one which is much dimmer. Really appreciate you letting us know though as we have now managed to fix that issue. Please come and see us again and thank you again for taking the time to do your review as it really makes a difference.Kind regardsJane

An excellent pub with friendly and welcoming staff. Sam, who had only started on Tuesday, was absolutely charming and will be a wonderful asset to the restaurant. The room was very comfortable and everything beautifully clean. One tiny gripe, the lighting is cosy and romantic but when it comes to reading a book or newspaper a light at the end of the room from the bed would be of great assistance - just a thought!Well worth a visit and the food was excellent, thank you for welcoming us.

We booked one night at the George Inn as we were visiting friends in the area. The whole place is so quintessentially English, with a lovely welcome to match. The rooms are also very well appointed and extremely clean. Our dinner in the bar restaurant was excellent as was the cooked breakfast the following morning with lots of local produce. If I have one constructive comment it would be a suggestion to have some free bottled water in the rooms. Lovely hotel which we would highly recommend.

Although our stay was only overnight, we were made very welcome and asked what time we would like breakfast, instead of a time window. The room was clean with a very comfortable double bed and light switches to turn off from the bed.The shower room was very modern with a lovely shower and adjustable heated towel rail.Towels were big, fluffy and plenty of them and the toiletries provided were decent pump sizes rather than small one use type that are generally around, good quality too.Breakfast was brilliant with a wonderful choice of cereals, yogurts, fruit and a well cooked English breakfast. We would certainly have no hesitation in recommending this lovely hotel.

Chef has some original ideas for vegetarian options, which were appreciated. We will return if visiting that area of E Sussex in the future.Robertsbridge is also worth a visit; there are no specific attractions that we were aware of, but it's a picturesque and interesting village and a good base for exploring the area.

Once we first stayed here for a long weekend away to get out of the London rat race we were addicted.. first turned to many weekends. All the staff are of 5 star quality and always friendly and welcoming, there is nothing they couldn't do for you, if you asked they would bend over backwards to assist your request. The rooms are spotless and exactly how you see them on the internet, very high standards. The food is locally supplied and cooked by some of the finest Chefs, we eat frequently in London's finest and this establishment easily matches them by far. Even if you miss breakfast they even offered to make a swift bacon baguette which was sublime in itself. The locals when they come in are all friendly and welcoming you to their area and will not hesitate to offer advice on places to visit. The price you pay for this level of service is nothing, I would have paid more and you would pay more in London. The owners John & Jane you have a beautiful place there and I hope you continue to provide such a high standard of service. Also Thank you to Olly who even if we hadn't booked a table ...always managed to squeeze us in. All of you have become friends of ours and I will be back for more. See You All Soon X

We stayed for one night at The George and would definitely stay there again. We were made very welcome on arrival and were pleased with the room. The bed was very comfortable and the shower room modern and attractive.Service at dinner was excellent, although if we're honest, we found the main courses pretty unremakable. We had sea bass on potatoes with salad and the lamb dish.Breakfst was tasty and very well presented. We needed to leave promptly and appreciated the chance to order our cooked choice the night before. Personally, we found 9-9.30am for breakfast too late for us. It is a very small window and we would have preferred 8-8.30. Just a small point-I am a poor sleeper and the clock chiming every hour opposite our room was disturbing. That said,it is a lovely village with friendly people and we wouldn't hesitate to return to The George.

We were looking to visit gardens in the area and chose The George because it was near to all, so glad we did. We booked direct and Jane was so helpful with choice of room, which had the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in and it was so peaceful. The breakfasts were delicious with all locally sourced food and the evening meals had plenty of choice, I loved the tempura fish and chips, there is a lovely garden area at the back and we were able to sit and have drinks out there. The village itself is very pretty with lots of history. There is a very good Indian Restaurant there too, which is great especially on a Monday evening when the restaurant at the George is closed. We will definitely be back again to enjoy the hospitality of the owners and their staff. We would recommend The George Inn, just for a quiet stay in a lovely village, but if you are visiting Great Dixter, Sissinghurst, Pashley Manor Gardens it is the perfect place to stay as so close to all.

This was our first time staying at The George, nestled in a pretty, quiet village and what a wonderful stay we had. It was a last minute decision to go away for a complete break from busy lives and recovering from severe illness and we have never stayed at such a great place. We had all our evening meals there as food was so delicious and nothing is too much trouble as I’m a little bit fussy, breakfast was equally scrumptious, recommend the eggy bread. The room was spacious, beautiful and very clean. Had the best 3 nights sleep on the very comfortable beds. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. We stayed the one night wishing we had booked the weekend. Such a charming village Inn whose owners and staff make you feel so welcome from the very moment you arrive. The bar area with the log fire and comfy chairs was most welcome on a chilly evening. With a hearty menu to fill any belly in the beautifully presented restaurant. The room was very clean and stylish and didn’t retract from the character of thebuilding. The full English breakfast will certainly set you up for the day.If you’re looking for a relaxing, stress free time away within a beautiful setting then you’ll do well to stay here. The George Inn has been beautifully restored with four rooms upstairs and a pub and restaurant on the main level. The bedding was glorious and the ensuite was completed with high end fixtures. The meals we had in the restaurant were the best we had during our 12 day visit to England. The owners were very welcoming and gracious and a joy to talk with. We would highly recommend The George Inn to any traveler!

Lovely location, hotel, room, and food. Our only criticism was the restaurant/breakfast staff. We had to go and get menus ourselves, also we had to remind staff that we had ordered a further glass of wine.Breakfast, we arrived at 9.00am, nobody available for approximately 10 mins.We had to go to kitchen area and ask for milk for the cereals - great breakfast though.

We arrived on a Monday when the Bar and restaurant of the George is actually closed to customers however well before the date of our arrival Jane had contacted us and had agreed arrangements for when we arrived and we were warmly welcomed by John who showed us to our room and helped us with our luggage. Jane even recommended a couple of places for an evening meal. The room was delightfully furnished and we had a lovely view down Robertsbridge High Street. The breakfasts and evening meals were excellent. All the staff made us feel welcome. jane and John know the area well and are more than happy to recommend places to visit.Robertsbridge is a good central location for visiting Rye, Battle, Tonbridge Wells, various National Trust Properties and several steam railways lines.

We had the pleasure of staying here for 5 nights recently,we used it as a base for visiting the many beautiful gardens in the area. Our room was huge about 5mx5m with the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in and with(joy of joys) feather pillows.Due to the constraints of a period building the shower and washbasin/loo were separate, bijou but nicely tiled with modern fittings,I found it a little tricky to rinse my face after shaving due to the size of the basin and the shelf above. The stair carpet and the bedroom corridor carpet look due for renewal in the near future.Breakfast was delicious with a selection of freshlocal fruit, yoghurt, cereal available,of course we also had the cooked breakfast again consisting of local produce, very tasty indeed. We also had 2 evening meals here which were served by the friendly and efficient staff,I would recommend the haddock, sublome. The bar really comes alive at weekends, not surprising as the surroundings and atmosphere is all you would want from a country pub. This is a well run, welcoming establishment and we would both commend it to you.Oh and the hosts Jane & John couldn't be more helpful and obliging. We LOVED it!!

We booked into The George for 2 nights as we were attending an event in the area. Our room was beautifully presented' and very quiet despite being over the bar. The shower room was divided - large shower on one side of the chimney and then separate toilet and basin on the other side but all worked satisfactorily. The lack of a wardrobe was made up for by several hooks on the wall outside the shower room.We dined in the pub on the firstnight. After a slightly shaky start the fish and chips was beautifully cooked and the staff were very attentive. Really good service.Breakfast both mornings was excellent.Overall a lovely to place to stay - well placed to visit the area and very peaceful for a good night's sleep.

Our only slight criticism was that there were only two breakfast tea bags provided but this wasn't the end of the world! The bar and dining areas were very welcoming and all staff very helpful and friendly. The evening meal and breakfast we had during our stay were both of exceptional standard, well presented, hot and delicious encouraging us to dine at The George again.Overall a very enjoyable stay. On arrival we had a couple of issues with getting to the room.We had to stand in the bar for more than 10 mins waiting to be shown to the room. We had been on the road for over 10 hours so it was not the best start as we just wanted to freshen up and enjoy our night. In the end I just took the key and we made our own way up. We found that the room had been made up wrong (as a twin instead of a super king). This was swiftly corrected by the owners and a free drink was put on the bar for us. They were very friendly and were excellent hosts which more than made up for the small error.I was a bit disappointed to find that only 1 of the 4 real ales were in service to start, another being added later on but they were good beers. The food was ok. We thought that almost £25 for a 10oz rib eye was a bit pricey and we would rather of payed a bit more for a better steak as rib eyes are full of fat and sinew. There was a considerable amount left on our plates. We also felt the side veg that came with it was pretty lack lustre. Whilst there was lots of it, the quality of it made it more of a token gesture than an accompaniment to the meal.We had the cheese cake for desert which wasn't very good. It was still a bit frozen and I think chef might have forgotten to put any sugar in it. The base was salty and the cheesecake was very tart with the obvious presence of gelatin which left a slimy residue in our mouths. The room was excellent, however there was no hot water in the morning. Unfortunately we were heading out to a wedding so we had no choice but to have freezing cold showers which wasn't a nice experience on such a big day.Breakfast was superb. Fantastic orange juice and bacon!Overall we had a good night and the owners were great so we refrained from making a scene over their errors. I have no doubt that they would have rectified most of the above to the best of their ability but we did not want any disruptions, I hope they find this review fair and constructive.

We were treated to a wonderful evening at the George in Robertsbridge. The village is lovely, the bar and locals incredibly friendly and the staff very attentive. The homely family feel is very welcoming and the personal touches very re-assuring. The food is also excellent with plenty of local produce and worth their fair prices. The room was nicely appointed with a clean and tidy bathroom. The bed was comfy and breakfast was great, although I was still full, from the night before. The only chink in an otherwise fabulous stay was the cold shower in the morning. This was mentioned and I was informed that the boiler had recently been replaced and was obviously playing up, as I was not the first guest to mention it. Hopefully, that will be resolved before my next stay!! I will look forward to it...

We really enjoyed our stay in this delightful place -the bedroom was comfortable and full of lovely touches. The staff were friendly and the breakfast superb. Really personal service. Our only minor issue was no food being served on the Sunday evening - but this was only a minor thing.Highly recommended.

Fantastic accomodation and lovely homely feel. Only thing that let it down was food. Although a reasonable price was very bland and did not enjoy. Would stay again as could not fault room.

the George inn was perfect for us as we wanted a meal with accommodation so that we could both drink. The food was absolutely lovely with something on the menu for everybody and the service and atmosphere was really good. The room was clean, comfortable, warm and decorated to a high standard. The breakfast was very enjoyable and very relaxed. We will definitely be returning. Thanks again for a lovely stay.

This was our third visit to the George, and we were welcomed back like old friends. The room was as comfortable as ever, the beer superbly well kept and the food outstanding (compliments to Stuart, the chef). Jane and John continue to do an exceptional job in maintaining a pub which is clearly the beating heart of the village, if the Christmas Capers celebration that was going on during our stay is anything to go by. Already looking forward to the next time.

After a grim drive in horrendous traffic and pouring rain, it was a pleasure to settle into a comfy sofa by a blazing fire and enjoy a warm welcome, drink and good dinner. The room was very comfortable with everything you could possibly want.Cooked Breakfast was lovely and in sensible sized portions. The yoghurts were delicious as was everything else. These are people who work exceptionally hard to ensure that their guest are comfortable.

We stayed one night in 'Pooke'. On arriving we were greeted iby friendly bar staff who checked us in and offered to help with bags. The room is big and has a big comfortable bed, a lovely wooden warbrode with great mirror on the front. The couch was a lovely touch. Everything fitted into a 'period' feel. The toilet and shower are seperate sides of the chimney breast from the fire in the pub. Very clever use of space. The curtain are lovely and heavy to keep the light out. Good heating and lovely lighting in the room. We ate dinner and breakfast and both meals were lovely, tasty and well cooked, served by friendly staff. Jane made a point of saying hello and obviously trains the staff to provide friendly and efficient service. Would definitely stay again and thoroughly recommend.

Sadly we only spent one night in this extremely comfortable hotel. Room was beautifully decorated and so quiet, despite facing the road. Both the evening meal and breakfast were very good, with high quality ingredients. John, Jane and all staff that we met are very accommodating. The venue is also good as a base for exploring 1066 country. We will undoubtedly return to this gem of hospitality.

There was a nice area to sit and chill out in downstairs after breakfast.Would definitely recommend it.

Overall very comfortable with good food and service. The George is set in a beautiful village in a very attractive part of the country. The locally sourced food was particularly good although the perfectly cooked steak, although better than most, was not quite "top of the tree". I feel overly picky in reporting this because everything else was great and the staff tried very hard to please. We would certainly recommend both the accommodation and the food.

We have just come back from a wonderful weekend in East Sussex with the George Inn as our base. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. The room was just like the photo on the website, spotlessly clean and lots of character. Shower room and toilet, albeit small, looked brand new and again spotless, with a great rainfall shower. Breakfast was local produce and fresh. Great location on the high street, in a small picturesque village. Highly recommendable.

My husband and I had a rare night away and chose to stay at the George. The pub is located in a quiet picturesque village which has conveniences such as a pharmacy, One Stop and a delightful bakery/coffee shop. The George is situated at the top of the high street and has lovely views of the village. We stayed in Pooke (named after the earliest recorded landlord of the pub) and was tastefully decorated. The room has an en suite toilet and shower which are compact but perfectly functional and in fact the shower was brilliant. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. The owners were very welcoming and went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable (we had some transport issues during our stay and Jane came to our rescue which meant that we were able to make an appointment for a treat we had been looking forward to).We decided to eat in the bar and had an amazing meal at a reasonable price. The chef was happy to discuss my dietary requirements with me and offered to make something for me if the menu didn't cater for me. If you plan to eat at the George I would recommend booking a table. We stayed mid week and most of the tables had been reserved for diners.

On arrival we were welcomed by the friendly staff and shown to our room (Hilaire) which was modern, clean and perfect for two. We had dinner in the pub, and after talking to the chef about my wheat and gluten intolerance he assured me he could adapt anything on the menu to suit my needs. I had the cheesy garlic bread, fish and chips and a trio of ice creams, all of which was excellent. Both Jane and John (owners) introduced themselves to us which was a nice added touch and we had a quiet and relaxing sleep. We were off early the next morning and again the breakfast was catered to my dietary needs. All in all an excellent stay in the George Inn, which is a great base to explore the surrounding attractions such as Bodiam Castle and Hasting. Thank you.

After being battered by high winds at nearby Bodiam Castle, we spent a rainy afternoon by the fireside of this traditional and cosy local pub. Our room and bathroom were clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Jane, the co-owner, warmly welcomed us to the restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious and relaxed meal. It was a busy Saturday night, so service was a little slow but we didn't mind.

We received a very warm welcome to the George Hotel and were very pleased with our room and found the bed very comfortable.TV easy to use.The bathroom and shower were tiny but a very good use of space. The breakfast was excellent and we were well looked after by our Hostess Jane who could not have tried harder to please her guests. My only complaintis that the air conditioning needs improving because the smell of grease and beer as you walk in was very strong.I know that this is a difficulty when running a pub but the problem is that the smell clings to clothes and you carry it with you for the rest of the day.

Thank you Peter for your lovely review and for taking the time.I have taken your point on regarding the garden and poor John is going to be experiencing an afternoon at the garden centre in the very near future to get some more pots and plants for the courtyard.Earlier in the year we had vegetables including beans and courgettes growing but unfortunatley our customers have eaten them all now!!!Thank you once again though and we look forward to hopefully welcoming you back soon.Kind regardsJane Turner

We stayed from 23/7/14 for two nights and from the moment we checked in could not have been made more welcome by ALL the staff. We stayed in Pooke which was a large en-suite situated at the front overlooking the car park and again was very comfortable. The only down side was the fact that the toilet and shower rooms were both very cramped. As we only stayed for two evenings it was not a problem. The breakfasts were of a high standard and again nothing was a problem. We dined there both evenings and had lunch there one day and the food was locally sourced, well presented and of a very good quality.Would definitely stay again

Would have welcomed a croissant instead of bread with our packed breakfast. Hilaire is a cosy room once we had mastered the radiators - it cooled down a little! Bed is very creaky! We are aware there is no space for a hanging cupboard - perhaps a hanging rail would help. some double hangers for suits and trousers could be added? This is being very picky but trying to be helpful! Thank you again for a wonderful stay and we will be back next year. We shall contact you direct once our dates have been confirmed. We were made to feel very welcome here. John and Jane made every effort to ensure we were comfortable and happy and all the staff came across as bubbly, intelligent and with a good sense of humour. We were grateful for the advice on good places to visit, independent coffee shops, the best places to park etc. Our room, 'Paddyhame', wastastefully furnished and the mattress was comfortable. I think if we were to stay any longer than a couple of nights, we might prefer to go for one of the rooms with a larger bathroom. The food was fabulous. So fresh, full of flavour and beautifully presented. We found the location perfect for visiting Rye, Hastings (old town), Battle, Burwash and Bodiam Castle. Robertsbridge, itself, is a delightful village.

Just a one night break at the George felt like an entire weekend away. We received a friendly welcome at the bar from the locals and tucked into tasty home cooking in the lounge room restaurant.Classy but homely, and a breakfast for champions with local produce, fresh fruit and a non greasy fry up! We look forward to coming back!

With Jane's guidance I arranged a surprise 70th birthday meal for my wife. As part of the surprise I also arranged for my wife's two sisters and their husbands to stay at The George. The arrangements, table decorations and our meal all contributed to a memorable evening. Also, our guests loved the rooms and their breakfast.

Excellent accommodation and breakfast. We were attending a function close by so did not sample the restaurant. However, did have a couple of brandy's in the bar on return. One was presented in a very dirty glass. When returned to bar contents were decanted into another glass!!!!! Minimum I would expect would be a fresh (clean) glass and another brandy. However, I would thoroughly recommend the accommodation, very tastefully decorated.

More of the same please reflects on the wonderful experience we had during our two night stay at The George Inn. From walking in the front door to sadly leaving two days later, every moment will be reflected on many times. Picture post card village, wonderful hosts, friendly and efficient staff, rooms fit for royalty and food that gave pleasure with every mouthful: Jane, the honey with the cheddar will start a trend in our family. Thanks to Jane and John and their team for a memorable break. We have never returned to stay anywhere, but we have already decided The George will be the first. All our thanks and best wishes, Peggy and Roger Boothby.

Everything about our weekend stay in The George at Robertsbridge was truly fantastic. We were warmly greeted by Jane on Friday evening and were made to feel extremely welcome, immediately we felt utterly relaxed therefore putting us in a perfect mood for a weekend away from the streses and strains of London. The food was exquisite, the rooms were homely and the location is absolutely perfect for foraging down to the Sussex coast. Would we stay again? Most definitely. Would we recommend The George to our friends and family? Without a shadow of a doubt. Thank you Jane and John for a fabulously relaxing time.

We have eaten at The George several times and the food is always consistently very good so we decided to treat ourselves to a Valentines night out and also to stay in one of their bedrooms.Valentines Dinners are notoriously over priced and disappointing - not so here! We had a delicious supper, it was reasonably priced and the service was friendly and efficient but not too 'in your face'. It was a set priced three course meal with excellent choices and very reasonably priced. We wanted to add a cheese course - a request that was organised with no fuss and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Our room was comfortable and beautifully decorated - I actually was quite sorry we were only staying for one night! A delicious and generous breakfast was included in the room price. At just over £200 for the two of us for a four course supper, drinks before hand and a bottle of nice red, our room and breakfast it was absolutely amazing value. We had a lovely time and I would recommend eating here.Visited February 2014

From the initial welcome on Friday evening to the moment we left The George on Sunday, Jane and John made our weekend stay really special. There was a great atmosphere in the bar when we arrived. Jane showed us to our room (Padyhame) which, like the rest of the Inn, was clean, tidy and extremely well decorated.Jane had reserved a table for us but without any fuss slipped it back a while due to us being a tad delayed by traffic.Dinner on both nights was great; the hot food was hot, as were the plates, a big thing for me…It was my birthday over the weekend (the reason for our time away) and my partner had secretly arranged a cake, which Jane and her team had actually made themselves. At the height of dinner on the Saturday evening, Jane brought it out with candles, singing ‘Happy Birthday’…!Overall the weekend was perfect; the accommodation was delightful, food excellent and the care & attention from John, Jane and their team was exquisite. If you want a relaxing place to stay, with good food and a great atmosphere, The George is an absolute must. Definitely a location we intend to return to.

We really enjoyed our stay at The George. Stayed in Pook - beautiful room with great view of the village. Shower room tight but perfectly fine and only way of getting the shower in without compromising size of room. Only complaint was size of the cooked breakfast - we felt that one slice of bacon was a bit mean - it surely wouldn't gave broken the bank to fill up the large (empty-ish) plate with a second rasher!
Response
Thank you Sarah for taking the time to write your review and I understand totally what you say about the shower. You are correct in that it was a decision we took in relation to not compromising the rest of the lovely proportions of that room, however we were also restricted under some very tight planning rules and regulations as The George is Grade 2 listed building which meant that we could not actually change the dimensions of that space, even if we had wanted to.In relation to your breakfast comment though, I have passed this onto our chef as realistically your plate should not have been empty or even emptyish.Having discussed this with our Chef, I think what has happened is that if guests haven't usually ordered all of the items that make up a full Sussex breakfast, he would usually have put on extra of the items that had been ordered but I think on this occasion, he must not have done this.We are so sorry that that was the case and I can assure you that this will not happen again. We pride ourselves on a giving a good breakfast and have recently just been awarded a Breakfast Award by Visit Britain to support this, so hopefully if we can tempt you to come and stay again with us, we can make sure you have the full George breakfast that time around.Thank you though once again for taking the time to write up your comments as we do really appreciate getting feedback.Kind regardsJane

What a wonderful place. The rooms were stunningly decorated and very comfortable. The food was amazing and the hospitality was genuinely warm and welcoming. The owner Jane in particular treated us like old friends. My only criticism was the music / DJ was terrible but as an outside source cannot include that as a fault of the George. It really was impeccable and I would recommend anyone thinking of staying there to do so.

My wife & I stayed at the George recently for the first time. The owners were away on holiday, but the remaining staff were both competant & courteous from start to finish. Our bedroom (Hilaire) was both quiet & comfortable. We ate in the restaurant on both nights. The menu could have been a little more varied, but the food was delicious and well presented. On the Saturday evening there was a party of 17 people on another table who had arrived just before us. Nevertheless, there was only a little delay in our being served. The beer & wine were excellent. All in all I would recommend the George for a stay of a few nights.

We stayed for just one night with our two young children as we were in Roberstbridge for a wedding. The room was set up with an air bed for our daughter and cot for our son. The room was lovely, the breakfast delicious, staff very friendly and professional, nothing would have been too much trouble I'm quite sure.Next time we'll return without the children so we can enjoy the restaurant area and pub a little bit more!

Very enjoyable stay in a comfotable inn. There was a slight mix up with our booking as we had booked a meal in the dining area, but were informed on our arrival that 'John had not advised them on this'. Printed confirmation was presented of our booking with an 'Oh' from Sam who dealt with our arrival. An alternative table outside the dining area was offered to us however near the bar. As things turned out we were able to dine in the main dining area and Karl and in particularly James were most friendly and hospitable. Myself and our wife thoroughly enjoyed our meal and stay at The George. The only slight thing (which did not concern us) was the limited breakfast times of 9 to 9.30. I'm sure though that if we had requested an earlier time, this would have been accomodated.Thank for a verey enjoyable stay!

The George Inn is perfect for a quiet weekend escape from London, or as part of a more entensive heritage trek through 1066 country. Our room was a delight--comfortable, tasteful and quiet--and the food was very good. We appreciated the fact that all ingredients are sourced locally, within 30 miles. The chef creates some lovely dishes: I can recommend the slow-cooked pork, and the blue cheese souffle. Breakfast is a real treat too. We will be back!

Not often that you get a village pub that's managed to combine the welcoming sight of happy locals round the bar with an excellent kitchen and astoundingly good service - Probably the best bed that we've slept in for quite a while and we include Whatley Manor (2 Michelin stars) in that evaluation. At the end of the day of course, it's always the people that make the difference. a very very good team that have found the perfect blend - Go there.

Our food choice from the extensive menu proved to be a very difficult task with the amazing selection of locally sourced foods, but it was worth the wait. Our compliments to the chef.
